A Silent Cause
My passion for writing started during my high school years; anytime I needed to release emotions or feelings, I would write about it. This soon morphed into the creation of characters who shared experiences of mine and how they would deal with them versus me.
During my senior year of high school, I was tasked with writing a play for my final thesis, while a friend of mine directed it. This was an opportunity that I didn't realize at the time would truly change me. I decided to challenge myself and write about something not related to my personal experience. This is how “A Silent Cause” came to life.
“A Silent Cause” follows the relationship of a verbally abusive, alcoholic mother and her daughter, Carter. As soon as the idea was solidified and I wrote the first line of dialogue, I couldn’t focus on anything else; I had unlocked a new passion. I proceeded to write the whole play in less than two months.
As soon as staging started for the show, Covid hit. We had to completely switch gears and adapt the script to film. Trying to stay six feet apart in my dad’s office, we were able to produce something really special. I’ve attached a clip below showing one of my favorite scenes: when Carter finally stands up to her mom before she decides to run away.
